Epic Urban Slide!

Clearly the best way to travel, slides! Disappointed this wasn't part of the development plans for 2012!

'It’s officially called a ‘transfer accelerator’ by Dutch railway maintenance company ProRail, but everyone else would say it’s a slide. An awesome slide. Installed next to a stairway at the newly renovated railway station Overvecht in the city of Utrecht, the slide offers travellers the opportunity to quickly reach the railway tracks when they’re in a hurry.'

GENIUS!!!

Red Balloon

RED BALLOON from Alexis Wajsbrot on Vimeo.

Spine-chilling short from Alexis Waisbrot seen here on Vimeo. Brilliant pacing and a wonderfully shot short horror. Also a strong storyline with the capability to easily stretch to a longer feature. Try it at 2am with the lights off at full screen... I dare you!

Serious Rotoscoping

Seriously accomplished rotoscoping used on a video for The Wombats - Techno Fan.

"Worked with the Found Collective on this Wombats music video. I designed and developed software (using C++ / openframeworks / opencv) to process live footage of the band. All images seen above are generated from this software."

Very nice work indeed.

Big Talk

New rock band Big Talk formed with The Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci. Some quality catchy tunes and solid melodies match up with the encapturing lyrical stylings of RV. Worth a fair listen for all indie lovers.

The Future of Portfolios

Firstly see this Computer Arts article on the use of tablets as a digital form of showing your portfolio (HERE).
To follow this see the latest technology from Samsung, the 'AMOLED displays'. (HERE)

In the next few years we could see the market of tablets and phones take another massive change with the possibilities of upcoming technology. The Samsung displays are set to hit the market in some way, shape or form in 2012. They are a bare 2mm thick and allow the screen to be rolled or folded when not in use (or even when in use). Just imagine having a tablet that you can roll up smaller than a phone. Or even a phone that rolls up to the size of a cigarette! (Just don't try and smoke it!)

Having this kind of portability has the potential to change the market in a big way and is an exciting prospect for the future of product design and design for advertising. A key piece of technology to keep up to date with.

Jerome Taylor and others similar

Taylor Jones was sifting through a box of old family photos when he found a picture of his younger brother sitting in a chair at the kitchen table. The 21-year-old Canadian looked up and noticed that the same chair was in front of him. Lifting the picture to fit with the background behind it, he stumbled across an idea which has landed him a book deal and turned his photography blog into a global internet phenomenon.

Also check out BenHeine's DeviantArt gallery and his pencil vs photo work, some interesting work in a similar vain.
